AbdulRazaq Meets Defence Minister Matawalle, Seeks Enhanced Military Support for Kwara
Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has intensified efforts to address security challenges in the state.
Governor AbdulRazaq held a meeting with the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, to discuss the need for stronger federal support and enhanced military collaboration.
The meeting, which took place at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja, focused on measures to strengthen security operations in Kwara, particularly in vulnerable communities facing emerging threats.
AbdulRazaq briefed the minister on the security situation in the state and sought increased cooperation between security agencies and the Kwara State Government, including a stronger military presence in areas considered susceptible to criminal activities.
The governor's engagement with the Minister of State for Defence forms part of a broader push to mobilise federal support for efforts aimed at preventing insecurity from taking root in the state.
In recent months, AbdulRazaq has held consultations with President Bola Tinubu, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, the Minister of Defence, and heads of security agencies as part of measures to strengthen the state's security architecture.
The administration has also established the Safer Kwara Security Committee, a cabinet-level body tasked with developing sustainable solutions to security challenges and coordinating government responses to emerging threats.
As part of efforts to build a community-driven security framework, the governor has engaged traditional rulers and other stakeholders to develop strategies tailored to the peculiar security realities of the state.
The state government further constituted a Security Strategy Committee made up of retired military officers of Kwara origin, including retired generals and senior security experts, to provide guidance on measures aimed at sustaining peace across communities.
To improve surveillance and intelligence gathering, the government has supported the establishment and deployment of trained forest guards to monitor forests and remote settlements, particularly in the Kwara North and Kwara South senatorial districts.
Governor AbdulRazaq's administration has also continued to provide operational support to security agencies through the donation of patrol vehicles, motorcycles, and other logistics to aid security operations.
