Kwara Reaffirms Commitment to Reproductive Healthcare, Partners MSI on Family Planning Outreach
The Kwara State Government has reiterated its commitment to improving the quality of healthcare services, particularly in reproductive health.
In a statement issued by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Saad Hamdalat, the ministry disclosed that it hosted the "Give Well Outreach Project" inception meeting with stakeholders of MSI Reproductive Choices Nigeria in Ilorin.
The meeting, held at the Emergency Operations Centre Hall of the Ministry of Health, formally launched the initiative aimed at expanding access to voluntary family planning services across Kwara State.
According to the statement, the government pledged to strengthen collaboration with partners to ensure the successful implementation of the outreach project for the benefit of women and girls statewide.
In her remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Amina Ahmed El-Imam, expressed satisfaction with the partnership and commended MSI Reproductive Choices for its sustained support to the state's health sector.
"MSI has remained a dependable partner in our drive to improve reproductive health services. Its interventions in Kwara have significantly strengthened service delivery across our facilities," she said.
Ahmed El-Imam described the organisation as a global leader in reproductive health, noting that its consistent engagement had enhanced the capacity of public health institutions in the state.
She also praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his commitment to women's empowerment and inclusive governance.
"To the glory of God, we have a leader who cares deeply about women and their wellbeing. It is indeed an honour and privilege to serve in this administration," she added.
The commissioner stressed that no government could singlehandedly address all health challenges, emphasising the need for sustained partnerships with development organisations and community stakeholders.
In his keynote address, the Country Director of MSI Nigeria, Emmanuel Ajah, appreciated the Kwara State Government for maintaining a strong partnership with the organisation since 2013.
"We are grateful to the Kwara State Government for sustaining this collaboration over the years. Since 2013, we have worked together to improve access to voluntary family planning services," he said.
Ajah revealed that more than 40 public health facilities in the state had received various forms of support from the organisation, noting that family planning extends beyond health to social development and women's empowerment.
Also speaking, the Outreach Channel Lead, Ekene Chukwuma, said the project is designed to improve sexual and reproductive health outcomes among underserved women and girls in Kwara and Enugu states.
He explained that the initiative would establish and operate two additional mobile outreach teams over a 36-month period in both states to reach rural and hard-to-reach communities.
Chukwuma added that the teams would provide free services with a full method mix, with emphasis on long-acting reversible and permanent methods, enabling women and girls to make informed and voluntary reproductive health choices.
