Ten Months On, Kwara United Yet to Receive N50m Federation Cup Prize Money

Date: 2026-02-13

Ten months after winning the prestigious President Federation Cup, Kwara United Football Club have reportedly not received the N50 million prize money attached to their landmark victory.

The Ilorin-based club secured their maiden Federation Cup title after defeating Abakaliki FC on penalties following a goalless draw in the final held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos. The victory was widely hailed as a historic milestone for the team.

Despite the achievement, the prize money has yet to be paid almost a year later.

A source close to the club revealed that officials have made several enquiries to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) regarding the delay, but no specific reason has been communicated.

"Kwara United haven't received their President Federation Cup prize money. We've asked NFF General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, about it, and he hasn't given any reason why the club hasn't received the money," the source said.

The delay has sparked concerns over administrative processes and financial accountability in a tournament considered one of the most prestigious competitions in Nigerian football.
