Kwara Fire Service Contains Blaze at Commissioner Log Way, Saves Adjoining Structures
A fire outbreak on Tuesday night gutted five offices within a storey building situated along Commissioner Lodge Way in the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Ilorin, Kwara State.
The Kwara State Fire Service confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday. According to the Public Relations Officer and Head of Media, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the inferno started at approximately 8:31 p.m. at No. 2B, affecting the offices and a car park that was being utilised as a store.
"The Kwara State Fire Service responded promptly to a fire incident on Tuesday, 3rd February 2026, at 20:31hrs, at No. 2B, Commissioner Log Way, GRA, Ilorin," the statement read.
Adekunle confirmed that firefighters arrived promptly at the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control by 8:47 p.m., effectively preventing it from spreading to other sections of the building or to adjoining structures.
Reacting to the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, CFS Alabi Muhammed, urged residents and property owners to adopt strict fire safety measures. He advised the installation of fixed fire protection systems, including automatic sprinkler systems, drenchers, and fire suppression devices, to minimise damage during fire outbreaks, particularly when buildings are unoccupied.
"Automatic firefighting systems can significantly help in controlling fires even when occupants are not present, thereby reducing the impact of fire incidents," Muhammed said.
The state fire service reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state and pledged to continue promoting proactive fire safety measures throughout Kwara State.
