Kwara Govt Unveils New Innovations to Strengthen Guidance and Counselling in Schools
The Kwara State Government has met with school Counsellors and key Education Stakeholders to unveil new innovations aimed at strengthening guidance and counselling activities across schools in the state.
The one-day meeting, held on Wednesday at the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development headquarters in Ilorin, brought together Counsellors from selected schools in Asa, Ilorin South, Ilorin East, and Ilorin West Local Government Areas.
Representing the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Olanrewaju Rebecca Bake, emphasised the vital role Counsellors play in guiding students to make informed academic and career decisions.
"The purpose of this meeting is to awaken you to new innovations that set in for you to excel in your chosen career and assist students in setting their academic goals in choosing their careers," the Commissioner said.
Dr Olohungbebe urged Counsellors to intensify efforts to curb anti-social behaviour in schools and help promote positive moral values, calling on principals of both senior and junior secondary schools to give Counsellors the needed support to effectively guide students.
He encouraged participants to actively engage, share experiences, and adopt the strategies discussed to enhance counselling services in schools.
The meeting was attended by important dignitaries, including: Director, Curriculum and Assessment, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, be Alhaji Suleiman Ajape; Director, Unilorin Counselling and Human Development Centre, University of Ilorin, Dr.Mulikat Ladi-Abdulqadir Mustapha; Dr.ShuaibAbolakale Muhammed of the Department of Education, Guidance and Counseling, Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Mr Ogunleye Ayodeji; Researchers, Department of Guidance and Counseling, University of Ilorin; G&C Desk Officials from Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development; TESCOM and SUBEB NUT Officials; State ANCOPS President, Comrade Baba Saliu and AOPSHON officials.
