Prof. Ali-Agan Urges Residents Of Ilorin Emirate To Uphold Islam, Reject Any Form Of Idol Worship
A renowned Islamic scholar, Professor Abubakr Imam Ali-Agan of the Department of Islamic Studies, University of Ilorin, has called on the people of the Ilorin Emirate to remain steadfast in the teachings of Islam and reject every form of idol worship or practices contrary to Islamic principles.
Professor Ali-Agan made the call during his weekly Islamic Programme, Madrasat Muhammad on Radio Nigeria - Harmony FM, Idofian, Kwara State.
He urged residents across the five local government areas of the emirate to preserve the legacies of Sheikh Alimi, the revered founder of the Ilorin Emirate, whose leadership was built on strong Islamic values.
The university don cautioned against the infiltration of un-Islamic traditions and practices into the community, stressing that such tendencies threaten the religious and moral foundation laid by the forebears of the emirate.
"Ilorin is known worldwide as a centre of Islamic scholarship and moral uprightness. We must not allow any act of idolatry or deviation from true Islam to stain that heritage," he warned.
Professor Abubakr Imam Ali-Agan enjoined traditional, political, and religious leaders at all levels to uphold and defend the Alimi Emirate system, which, according to him, represents the symbol of unity, peace, and Islamic identity in the region.
He also encouraged parents, clerics, and community leaders to intensify efforts in the proper teaching of Islamic values to the younger generation to safeguard the emirate's identity and promote continued harmony among its people.
Professor Ali-Agan, however, condemned the planned event by traditional worshippers at Laduba community in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State, calling on the authorities, Royal fathers, and Islamic scholars to intervene and stop the programme.
