Power Surge Causes Fire Damage to Three Flats in Ilorin's Tanke Oke-Odo Area
A fire incident damaged a two-storey residential building in Ilorin, Kwara State's capital, on Tuesday morning at approximately 9:40 a.m. The blaze occurred at Down Winners, behind Tomopewa Apartments in the Tanke Oke-Odo area.
According to Hassan Adekunle, Spokesman for the Kwara State Fire Service, firefighters responded immediately to the distress call. "Upon arrival, crews swiftly contained the fire to prevent further spread. The 30-room structure sustained damage to three flats on the first floor," his statement confirmed.
Preliminary investigations indicate the fire was triggered by an electrical power surge. The Director of the Fire Service urged residents to prioritise electrical safety checks and adopt preventive measures, stating: "Regular maintenance of wiring systems and avoiding circuit overloads are critical to averting such incidents."
No casualties were reported, though displaced residents received temporary shelter assistance from community volunteers.
