Six people were killed and two others injured in a brutal attack at the Ilesah Baruba motor park in Baruten Local Government Area (LGA), Kwara State, following an assault by armed gunmen.

Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Kwara State police spokesperson, confirmed that ten armed men launched the attack, opening fire indiscriminately at a relaxation area within the park. Six victims were killed, and two sustained serious gunshot wounds.

Ms Ejire-Adeyemi stated that a full-scale investigation into the attack has been initiated. She also reported a separate incident in Kaiama LGA on Sunday, 20 April 2025, where Yusuf Samba, a member of a vigilante group, was killed during a shootout with suspected bandits in Kainji National Park.

The Kwara State police spokesperson said three of the bandits were also killed, noting that an informant linked to the bandits has been arrested.

Ejire-Adeyemi warned that anyone caught aiding or abetting crime in any part of the state will face the full weight of the law.
