Date: 2025-04-03

A fire gutted Ghalib Chambers, the law firm of renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Prof. Yusuf Ali, on Wednesday.

The blaze, triggered by a power surge, broke out around 9:22 a.m. at the Unity Road building in Ilorin, Kwara State, which houses 80 offices.

Adekunle, spokesman for the Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed the incident, noting that firefighters' swift response limited damage to just one office room, saving the remaining 79.

In a statement, Adekunle said: “On Wednesday, 2nd April 2025, at approximately 09:22 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service responded to a fire outbreak at Ghalib Chambers, Unity Road, Ilorin. The prompt action of our team prevented further escalation.”

“Upon receiving the distress call, firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene. Their swift intervention prevented further destruction, containing the fire to a single office on the second floor of the two-storey building, which houses about 80 offices.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by a power surge, which affected an air conditioner and some books.”
