Kwara State Government Partners with Nigerian Army to Tackle Youth Unemployment

In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at reducing youth unemployment and fostering national development, the Kwara State Government has announced a strategic partnership with the Nigerian Army to empower voluntary youth organizations through training, job creation, and skills development programs.

The State Commissioner for Youth Development, Amb. Ndanusa Usman Shehu, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the 22 Armored Brigade, Sobi Barracks, Ilorin.

According to the Commissioner, the collaboration will equip young people with critical skills in areas such as:

Security and paramilitary training
Technology and digital skills
Agricultural entrepreneurship
Leadership and civic responsibility

Amb. Shehu commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for creating an enabling environment for youth development in the state. He emphasized the Governor's unwavering commitment to initiatives that empower young people, positioning them as key contributors to the state's economic and social growth.

The partnership is expected to create new job opportunities and enhance youth capacity building, ensuring that more young people in Kwara acquire the skills necessary to thrive in a competitive economy.

“Governor AbdulRazaq has continuously demonstrated his dedication to youths development, creating opportunities that foster growth and innovation,” the commissioner stated.

Amb. Ndanusa noted that the initiative is expected to equip youths with the discipline and expertise needed to secure meaningful employment and contribute to national security efforts.

“This partnership will open doors for thousands of young Nigerians who are eager to serve their country and build a brighter future. Through skills acquisition, military-backed vocational training, and job placement initiatives, we aim to create sustainable employment pathways,” the Commissioner submitted.

The Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply of the Ministry, Dr. Funmilola Ajide further noted that the youths are the future of the nation and need proper monitoring, tutoring and training to thrive successfully in the society.

She also expressed optimism about the collaboration, emphasizing that such partnerships will open new doors for employment and skills development, among Kwara's youth.

In his response, the Commander of Sobi Barrack, Brig. General Ezra Barkins, expressed gratitude to the State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (CON), for creating an enabling environment that fostered their growth, efficiency, and operational success.

He welcomed the initiative, highlighting the military's role in shaping disciplined and responsible citizens.

“This strategic alliance between the Kwara State Government and the Nigerian Army, is a beacon of hope for young people aspiring to serve and build rewarding careers in the military, reinforcing the government's dedication to youths development and national service.The army is fully prepared to work alongside the Ministry to achieve our shared goals,” he stated.

Those in the entourage of the Commissioner were; Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply, Dr. Mrs Funmilola Ajide; Director of Youths, Alh. Abdulsalam Akeem; Assistant Director Administration, Mr Sikiru Aminu; Assistant Chief Youths Development Officer, Adekunle James; Assistant Director Administration, Mr. Alhassan Mohammed; Boys Brigade Member, Akanbi Adeola, and a Youth Corps member, Esther Abort.
