Kwara State Polytechnic Launches Inaugural Football League for Talent Development
Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has launched its first-ever Football League aimed at discovering and nurturing talent.
The league was unveiled over the weekend during a Sports Summit organised by the Student Union Government's (SUG) first female Sports Director, Comrade Kaosarah Ajoke Abdullahi.
In his address, the chairman of the occasion, Bola Mogaji, who also heads the Kwara State Sports Commission, described sports as a universal language that fosters unity, promotes peace, and serves as a catalyst for development.
Thanking the SUG Sports Director for her initiative, Magaji highlighted how the summit and the newly introduced league would bring about greater sports development in the institution and across Kwara State.
He urged students to embrace sports, not only for recreational purposes but also for its positive impact on academic performance, discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills.
In the same vein, the administrator of the Kwara Football Academy, Malam Ibrahim Bako, emphasized the need for the appointment of technocrats and professionals as sports administrators, especially at the grassroots level.
Speaking on the theme: “Grassroots Sports Development”, Bako argued that placing the right individuals (technocrats, professionals and ex-internationals) in key sports administrative roles would enhance the implementation and execution of government policies and fast-tracking sports development at the grassroots.
Bako highlighted infrastructural deficiencies as a significant barrier to grassroots sports progress.
