Mucenty Hotel, Omuaran, Gives Back to Society
To many businessmen and women, the sole essence of being in business is to make money, garner profit and continue to make profit without having the culture and nature of corporate social responsibility or giving part of the profit back to the community.
This is an area where Mucenty Hotel, one of the best hospitality outfits in Omu Aran, Kwara State has towered above others.
The hotel of taste and class has taken hospitality service beyond vending pleasure, but has gone a step further in recruiting, training and building the leaders of tomorrow within its milieu of operation.
Apart from the normal hospitality business which is at its best at Mucenty, the management of the hotel is also passionate about the growth of the larger society especially the younger generations by initiating another educational packagewhich is free for secondary school students who are taken through coaching classes in Mathematics and Computer Science.
The General Manager of the hotel, Mr Olabisi Salami in an interaction with TTM said "The Managing Director and the management believe that the best way we can contribute to the socio-economic development of the host community is by helping in preparing the younger generation for the future and that is why we initiated free Mathematics lesson and Computer classes for students selected from secondary schools in this environment."
Relating how it started, Mr Salami disclosed "We noticed the rate at which students failed Mathematics and English is on the high side and also discovered that most of the students are not Computer literate, which means they cannot fit into the key sector of the society, so we initiated the idea and we moved round the 14 secondary schools in the town with active involvement of the principals. We started with 10 students and we gave them a comprehensive mathematical and computer training right in this hotel.
Out of the first 10, eight of them passed their WASCE with good grades in Mathematics. And since then, we have been increasing the number of students and they are doing well and we are happy at this."
He also pointed out that "Our effort in helping the youths and students is being acknowledged by the government and some non governmental organisations have signified interest in supporting us in expanding and sustaining the programme."
