30 FST Graduates Inducted as Professional Members of NIFST
Thirty newly graduated students from the Department of Food Science and Technology have been inducted as professional members of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST). This milestone event occurred during the maiden induction ceremony held on the university campus on November 20, 2024.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, urged the inductees to continue advancing their knowledge and skills, emphasizing that their professional growth depends on updating their knowledge base. Represented by Professor Sunday Awe, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated the graduates on their achievement and encouraged them to be worthy ambassadors of the university.
The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Professor David Friday Apata, highlighting the significant contribution of food science in national economic growth, further encouraged the inductees to remain dedicated to advancing knowledge in the field of food science.
The President of NIFST, Dr. Bola Osinowo, assured the inductees of the institute’s commitment to supporting their professional development by providing information on reputable companies and organisations where they can get internship placements.
Represented by the Assistant National Secretary of NIFST, Mr. Rasaq Oke, Dr. Osinowo advised the new members to seek mentorship from senior members of the institute, stressing that the institute is ready to offer professional support to help them build successful careers as food scientists.
The highlight of the ceremony was when the Head of the Department of Food Science and Technology, Dr. Wasiu Awoyale presented the inductees for the oath-taking and certificate presentation.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Chairperson of the Western Chapter of NIFST, Professor Bolanle Akinwande, and the NIFST Logistics and Events Officer, Mr. Victor Olatunji.
Friends, family, and well-wishers of the inductees also graced the occasion to celebrate with the inductees.
