Kwara Government Reaffirms Commitment to Timely Prosecutions and Legal Defence

As reported by Daily Post, the Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the timely prosecution and defence of legal cases concerning the people of the state.

The reassurance was given by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Senior Ibrahim Sulyman, who was represented by the Solicitor General, Musa Idris, during the quarterly Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing. The event, organised by the Ministry of Communications, took place at the Ministry of Finance conference room in Ilorin, the state capital.

Sulyman emphasised the commitment and dedication of Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq to addressing prosecutions and defence of court cases in the state, asserting that “it is the statutory role of the Ministry of Justice to prosecute and defend court cases in order to ensure peaceful coexistence in the state.”

The Attorney General and Commissioner further stated that as of May 2024 till date, the Department of Civil Litigation had a total number of 54 cases, with 38 ongoing while 16 cases have been concluded.

Highlighting government's strides and efforts, Senior Ibrahim reiterated that the Department of Public Prosecutions had a total of 319 cases, and issued 262 legal advisories.

He affirmed that the Department of Legal Drafting had 88 agreements vetted and four laws and bills.

The Attorney General stressed that the Department of Revenue Services has 23 cases, out of which 12 were concluded to date.

“Furthermore, the ministry has oversight on the office of Public Defender. The office is handling 82 cases with 15 concluded, while Citizens Mediation Centre is handling 66 complaints,” he added.
