Emir of Ilorin Urges Kwara Residents to Maintain Peace and Avoid Protests
According to a news report from TVC News, the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has called on the residents of the state to uphold peaceful co-existence and avoid actions that could lead to disorder.
Emphasising the importance of dialogue in fostering harmonious relationships among stakeholders, especially between the government and interest groups, the Emir advised against participating in the planned nationwide protest. He stated, "Kwara should desist from the planned nationwide protest in the interest of peace, security, and prosperity of the state."
The monarch's appeal was conveyed in a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesman, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona.
Alhaji Sulu-Gambari stressed that, “There is no doubt that the current economic hardship is a global phenomenon which requires prayers. “All hands must be on deck, let's not allow chaos to take over rule of law under the guise of expressing our fundamental human right. Much can still be achieved through better understanding, perseverance and patriotism.
“Kwara state is known globally as a peaceful environment naturally endowned with great minds that cut across all careers and discipline. I urge you all to support the government in achieving its mandate of providing security for the lives and property of the people living in the state.
“Let's continue to support government with at all levels with prayers. We cannot afford with witness destruction of lives, property, businesses and infrastructures put in place by individual and government for the growth of the state and her people.”
The emir therefore urged government to ensure that the plights of the people remain paramount in their agenda and policies at all times.
