Date: 2024-06-10

According to a news report from Daily Trust, an abandoned newborn baby boy has been discovered at the dumpsite of Kulende Market near Estate Bridge in Ilorin East LGA, Kwara State.

Residents alerted the police to the situation, prompting officers to respond and take the baby into their care.

During a visit to the health facility where the baby was taken, Dr Uche Teddy, the doctor in charge, expressed gratitude to the Commissioner for Social Development, Hon Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade, for consulting his clinic on the matter, said, “Since the reception of the baby, a few tests have been carried out on him, including physiotherapy, and he is been given antibiotics. His condition is pretty stable. We assure the ministry that we will give it all our best to see that considerable care is given, and due process will be followed.”

Reacting also, Hon Afolashade who noted that her ministry had the mandate to take care of the baby and other vulnerable groups, urged the police to ensure that the baby received adequate medical treatment and released to the ministry for custody at the Childrens' Reception Centre in consonance with the ministry's law.
