Kwara State Intensifies Grassroots Campaign Against Drug Abuse
According to a news report from New Telegraph, the Kwara State Drug Control Committee (KWDCC), in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Office of the First Lady of Kwara State, has launched a mass mobilisation campaign against drug abuse at the grassroots level.
The campaign aims to educate rural communities about the dangers of drug abuse and its adverse effects on society.
Speaking during a sensitisation programme in Ijara Isin community, Isin Local Government Area, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-Imam, stressed the dire consequences of drug abuse, including premature death and mental disorders. She urged youths to refrain from consuming hard drugs, which could jeopardise their lives and future prospects.
Representatives from the NDLEA, including Chief Superintendent Narcotics (CSN) Samsudeen Amali, called on community leaders to actively engage in the campaign to foster the development of future leaders. They highlighted the commitment of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to nurturing exemplary youth leadership.
Additionally, committee member Alhaji Wahab Ajibola cautioned youths against promoting the use of hard substances due to their severe repercussions.
The Olusin of Ijara Isin, Oba Ajibola Julius, represented by High Chief Enoch Bamikole, expressed gratitude to the State Government for combating activities that threaten the youth's well-being. He assured the government of the community's full support and collaboration in the campaign.
The mobilisation campaign witnessed the participation of various stakeholders, including the Kwara State Drug Control Committee, NDLEA staff, local traditional leaders, religious figures, and members of the Ijara Isin community, including students and teachers.
