Tragedy Strikes as Passenger Dies Inside Public Bus in Kwara
According to a news report from CHANNELS, a yet-to-be-identified passenger has tragically lost their life inside a commercial bus along the Ogbomoso-Ilorin expressway in Kwara State.
The incident, which occurred on April 20, 2024, left fellow passengers in a state of shock and disbelief, as recounted by eyewitnesses. The deceased, believed to be in his late 60s, succumbed to what appeared to be convulsions during the journey.
Eyewitness Abeni Okin described the harrowing ordeal, stating that “The unfortunate incident happened on April 20, 2024. It began when the bus encountered mechanical issues, forcing the driver to stop the vehicle near Ote and leave the passengers behind to seek assistance,” she said.
“Amidst the ordeal of the stalled journey, the elderly passenger began experiencing seizures and struggling to breathe, signalling a medical emergency.”
The eyewitness added: “Despite the desperate need for aid, the remote location of the incident posed significant challenges in accessing timely assistance
“With no immediate medical attention available, the man's condition deteriorated rapidly, and tragically, he passed away before help could arrive.”
As of the time of reporting, the identity of the deceased remains unknown. While confirming the incident, the state Sector Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), Stephen Dawulung, clarified that while they were aware of the situation, health-related matters fall outside their jurisdiction, as they primarily handle road crashes.
