Ajase-Ipo Vocation Centre to be Ready September
The Kwara State Government has reassured Kwarans that the International Vocation Centre located in Ajase-Ipo, Irepodun local government area of the state, will be ready by September.
The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Alhaji Saka Onimago, gave this assurance on Monday when he paid an unscheduled visit to the permanent site of the centre, along Ijagbo/Offa road, to assess the level of work done on the project.
Onimago, who expressed his satisfaction with the level of development at the site, called on the contractor handling the project to expedite action in order to meet the September target for the completion of the project.
"The contractor has commenced a very good job, some of their engineers are on ground. The surveyors are already working on the map out of the site. I also learnt that some of those who would assist to put the centre into an international standard are already in the country", Onimago said.
The commissioner, who noted that the centre if completed will be the first of its kind in Africa, said that the centre will train youths in different vocations and help to reduce the problems of youth unemployment in the country, particularly in Kwara State.
"This administration has come here to construct a modern and globally acceptable vocational centre, the type that has never been witnessed in Nigeria and even in the West coast of Africa. The vision of the project is to train youths to be self-employed and to be employers of labour", Onimago said.
Onimago assured that the first set of students who would be taken on practical and theoretical learning with well-equipped classrooms and practical skill would commence training before the end of the year.
