6 Years After Offa Robbery, Residents Express Concern Over 'Delay' In Trial

Date: 2024-01-08

Residents of Offa in Kwara State have expressed concern over the 'delay' of trial of the suspects arrested in connection with the Offa robbery incident six years after.

They called on the government to expedite action in the case which is presently at the state High Court to ensure justice is done.

The April 5, 2018 armed robbery incident reportedly claimed about 33 lives with several others injured and millions of naira carted away. But the police said only 17 died.

According to a resident and the Babaloja of Offa, Alhaji Mashood Bello, “We don't know the reason why it has dragged this long but the whole community is concerned.”

On his part, another resident, Comrade Abdulateef Sirajudeen, said, “Offa is expecting judgement and not happy with the present situation. There is hardly any family not affected or that did not lose someone in the incident. We employ the state and federal government to expedite action for justice to be served in line with our expectations.”

The Otun Iyaloja of Offa, Alhaja Simiat Ibrahim, said, “If the governments can't decide the case, God will decide it in heaven because it (case) appears to have been politicised. After all the noises have settled, the community has moved on and continues to progress.”

While calling on the residents to give the investigators time to do their job, another resident, Jamiu Oluwadare, added that the community would be happy to get the outcome for others to learn.

However, a respondent who doesn't want his name in print said, “We have put our fate in Almighty God now the way the case is going”.
