FRSC Deploys 950 Personnel For Festive Season In Kwara
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced the deployment of 950 personnel for the Christmas and New Year special patrol operations in Kwara State. This information was revealed in a statement by Basambo Busari, the Public Education Officer of the Kwara FRSC, released on Friday in Ilorin.
The deployment includes 350 special marshals, 120 first respondents, 40 patrol vehicles, two power bikes, four ambulances, four private tow trucks, and a 70-ton tow truck dedicated to operations during the festive period.
Busari highlighted that the increase in vehicular movement during the festive season necessitated special operations. The move aims to address potential road traffic challenges associated with the surge in traffic across the state's road corridors.
Corps Commander Stephen Dawulung, the Sector Commander, has positioned personnel for traffic control at strategic points within Ilorin township and major cities across the state.
Dawulung urged motorists to comply with traffic rules and regulations, emphasizing the avoidance of speeding, overloading, obstruction, phone usage while driving, and violation of passenger manifest rules. He cautioned against driving vehicles with mechanical deficiencies, rickety vehicles, and worn-out tires.
The sector commander stressed the importance of avoiding night journeys and encouraged drivers to take a 30-minute rest after every 4-hour drive, prioritizing safety over financial gains.
The FRSC Kwara Command plans to organize public enlightenment campaigns, a mega rally at interstate motor parks, early morning announcements, advocacy sessions at places of worship and markets to educate motorists.
Additionally, special traffic control operations will be conducted in Ilorin metropolis with three traffic control camps established at Bode Saadu, Jebba, and Olooru to alleviate traffic congestion within these areas.
The FRSC's deployment of heavy tow trucks, ambulances, and standby rescue teams along major highways within the state aims to ensure swift clearance of obstructions and timely rescue operations.
This operation aligns with the FRSC's 2023 Corporate Strategic Goals, specifically targeting a five per cent reduction in road crash fatalities and injuries.
Dawulung urged motorists to exercise caution while driving and extended warm wishes for a Happy Christmas and New Year celebration to the residents of Kwara.
