Kwara: APC, PDP, LP United Over App To Track Govs 'Unfulfilled' Promises
An application to ensure governors across the country are held to account for their campaign promises has united the ruling party in Kwara State with its major opposition in the state, Daily Trust reports.
For the first time since the conclusion of the 2023 general elections, the major parties in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) have found a common ground in the imperativeness of the application.
The application, YouthGovTracker, which was developed by the Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI) was launched yesterday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Speaking in Il?rin on Thursday, the group's Global Director, Abideen Olasupo said they will leverage on the use of technology to ensure governors across the 36 states of the nation are tracked and held to account henceforth.
Many unfulfilled promises by the governors, it noted, have been linked to concentration on the federal government while neglecting the impact of the decisions made at the state levels.
Reacting to the launch of the app, the Publicity Secretary of the opposition PDP in the state, Olushola Adewara Sholyment, described it as a welcome development.
According to him, “The app is coming at the right time and we would like to partner with that kind of association, especially for a place like Kwara where the NGF chairman is from. We hope they (BBYDI) will concentrate more on the state and hope the citizens will join them to make this a reality and success.”
His counterpart in the APC, Tajudeen Aro, told our correspondent that “It's a good development and one of the necessary tools of good governance which would put an end to false propaganda and misinformation that flies around.
He said it will help the governors in re-accessing themselves and feel the public reactions towards their actions.
For the Kwara LP chairman, Rotimi Ajiboye, the app “Is a good thing, which is also obtained in other parts of the world to hold their governors to account on provision of good governance and accountability. Once they can guard against the Nigeria factor in their approach and engagement, it will be a very good move”.
