New Year Message from Senator Bukola Saraki
As Nigerians, we have a lot to be thankful for in 2012, and much more to look forward to in 2013. I personally thank all Kwarans and Nigerians for the honor and privilege to serve you as a Senator. You have shown me love and affection. You challenged my ideas, actions and inactions, thereby, giving me new ideas and directions. For all of this, I am humbled and sincerely thankful.
The year 2012 was full of memorable events in our lives as an individual and collectively as a nation. I know as much as you do that our nation is passing through tough challenging times socially, politically and economically. The insecurity and economic instability of our dear nation in the last one year have threatened our national unity and heightened our worries and concerns. There has been serious awakening among Nigerians in the state of the polity than ever before. With no doubt, this has taken us many steps ahead to our fortune as a nation. Having come this far, I strongly believe the darkest hour of the night is behind us and the dawn is just about to break off.
As a Distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic, I have been privileged to interact with youths, women, men, artisans, professionals and non- professionals alike whom we shared our hopes and desires for our country, Nigeria and to this end, it has really been delightful, I must confess. With more to come in this new year, there is need to put all machinery in motion to reduce unemployment rate by aiding our teeming youth into public , private enterprises and to be self sustained.
In the effort to ensure participatory democracy, I commend the coming together of young Nigerians on different platforms to discuss solutions to pressing national issues we are faced with; this is indeed one of my greatest revelations of 2012. I sincerely wish we could continue with such momentum in the New Year, turn our online articles and updates into practical transformation for the good of our dear nation.
In the course of my oversight function as a legislator, I came across young children from the Niger Delta feeding on oil polluted water and their families inhabiting in a depleted environment as a result of oil spills within their communities. Also, I witnessed the effect of the last year heavy flood that ravaged some parts of the country and the extent of damage which called for immediate evacuation and provision of relief materials to the affected victims. It is my believe that government at all levels will be more proactive in tackling such in the near future.
Preservation of our environment is a global challenge and Nigeria as a part of the global community should continuously fight against factors that prevent us from preserving the environment for the use of the future.
Just like the motion that brought sanity to the Oil sector and the need for an amendment to NOSDRA Act, which are some of the major steps taken by me in 2012 for us to look inwards, I will continue to push for laws and motions that will improve the standard of living of every Nigerian through appropriate legislative procedures.
I hereby wish to hold firm to my key purpose in government which is to humbly serve the masses whom I derived authority from. I urge you all this New Year to make peace, unity and love your New Year resolution in order to move this nation forward because the challenges ahead are much, but it is nonetheless surmountable with an enthusiasm spirit by us all. I hope for your continual support to carry on the good works you have associated yourself with.
I urge every Nigerian to remain on course with our reforms, be positive and optimistic in our steady march towards the making of Nigeria of our dream. We MUST make 2013 greater and positively different in our history as a nation.
On behalf of myself and my family I wish you all a prosperous new year.
May God Bless Nigeria
Long Live Kwara,
Long Live Federal Republic of Nigeria.
