The Kwara State Environment Protection Agency (KWASEPA) has trained hundreds of environmental corps across the 16 local government areas of state to enhance environment protection.

The induction training for the corps tagged “Environment Protection and Management Training” was organized in collaboration with Kwara State University Centre for Ecological and Environmental Management Studies.

The programme was aimed at producing highly skilled junior level environmental corps and ensuring the sustainability of the progammes of the state government towards addressing critical environmental challenges facing the state.

Addressing the training, the state Commissioner for Environmental and Forestry, Hon. Samuel Olasehinde Bamisaye, said the ministry would provide opportunity for those interested in environmental management and related disciplines.

He said the training was a testimony to the success of the Kwara Bridge Empowerment Scheme (KWABES) programme of the state Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed.

The Commissioner said the training would be held in batches, and urged the participants to carry out their duties according to the rules governing the operations of the agency.

Earlier in his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Kwara State University, Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, said that the institution, as part of its commitment to community development, would give the participants best education.

The VC, who tasked the participants to put the knowledge they would acquire from the training to use, remarked that they should justify the certificate they will be issued at the end of the exercise.

In their separate addresses, the general manager, KWASEPA, Alhaji Abdulsalam A. Abdulsalam, and Director, Kwara State University Centre for Ecological and Environmental Management Studies, Dr. Henry Sawyerr, charged the participants to be more committed and ready to learn.
