Emotions As Arsenal Superstar Bukayo Saka Visits Grandparents in Kwara, Nigeria
Arsenal superstar, Bukayo Saka has paid a courtesy visit to his grandparents in Oro Irepodun Local Government Area, Kwara State, Nigeria.
The Gunner is in Nigeria following the end of the Premier League season as he continues to identify with his roots.
Saka was born on September 5, 2001, in Ealing, London, to Yoruba Nigerian parents, Adenike and Yomi Saka.
The footballer arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Wednesday, May 31, following the end of the 2022/2023 football season.
Earlier, he was spotted in Bariga Lagos, where teeming Arsenal fans showered him with affection.
On Saturday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State received the England forward in his office, Best Choice reports.
Sanwo-Olu, who expressed delight over the visit by Saka, noted that he was excited to receive a signed shirt from the player.
And now the 21-year-old was spotted with his grandparents in Kwara State. Sharing the photo on his Twitter handle, Abdul A Bello wrote:
And fans have taken to the comment section to react. One said:
“This is not surprising though, most of my school mates from Lagos in high school who came back to school in Ilorin traced their family tree to Oro.”
Another added:
“I always suspected his originally from Kwara considering the name 'Saka'. I even thought he's from Ilorin gangan.”
Why I chose England: Saka
Sports Brief earlier reported that Arsenal forward, Bukayo Saka has explained that he was close to playing for the Nigerian national team previously, but things did not work out as he expected them to.
Before the Gunners star chose England, former Nigerian Football Federation President Amaju Pinnick tried his best to convince the Arsenal man to pick the Super Eagles, but it was to no avail.
Saka was part of the England national football team that participated in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
