Flooding: Kwara YPP guber candidate seeks support for victims
As many communities continue to grapple with the effect of flooding, the Young Progressives Party Kwara governorship candidate Yakubu Gobir is asking wealthy individuals to come to the aid of the flood victims.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin, Gobir said the disaster would have been better managed if people did not build on flood plains and government was proactive.
Flooding this year is one of the worst experienced in different parts of Nigeria.
Lives and properties have been lost to the disaster while many are still counting their losses.
Reacting to the incident, Yakubu Gobir said government and other emergency agencies need to be proactive in disaster management.
As preparations continue towards the 2023 general elections, the YPP governorship candidate is appealing to his fellow politicians to play the game according to the rules.
He’s also asking supporters not to heat up the polity by engaging in violent activities but rather should run campaigns based on issues.
He says the next election will be won and lost based on the personalities of the candidates rather than the popularity of their parties.
Yakubu Gobir was an APC governorship aspirant in 2019 but recently defected to the YPP to realize his governorship ambition.
