Kwara discharges 15 COVID-19 patients

Date: 2020-07-08

Kwara State Government has announced the discharge of 15 COVID-19 patients, just as the state recorded 13 new cases.

According to the Publicity Secretary of COVID-19 Task Force Rafiu Ajakaye, the state conducted 2,187 tests and 1,699 were negative.

Ajakaye, who is also the Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRahaman AbdulRazak, told newsmen in Ilorin that 161 discharged cases and five fatalities had been recorded in the state since the index case was recorded in March.

The number of active cases stands at 131, he added.

According to him, the deputy governor, who doubles as the task force chairman, Mr. Kayode Alabi, urged the residents to continue obeying all the World Health Organisation (WHO) protocols to place Kwara among the first states to flatten the curve of the pandemic.

The state government had lifted total ban on religious activities in the state, allowing worships at religious centres on Fridays and Sundays under strict adherence to precautionary measures.

Governor Darius Ishaku has lauded Taraba State Primary Health Care Development Agency (TSPHCDA), in collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), for training health educators on COVID-19 prevention.

Ishaku, who observed that UNICEF had been leading the campaign to alleviate the plight of women and children, described the presence of the organisation in the state as a great blessing to the citizens.

Speaking through the Executive Secretary of TSPHCDA, Alhaji Aminu Jauro, during the health educators quarterly review on community-based prevention and awareness strategy yesterday, the governor said the services UNICEF rendered in the state had gone a long way to put smiles on the faces of all and sundry.

Describing the health educators as the "backbone of all the health services," he urged them to take advantage of their services in the state to reach out to the people in the rural areas.
