Gov. Ahmed Explains Urbanization Policy
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has for the umpteenth time explained reasons for the introduction of the suspended 2009 Urbanization Law just as he attributed controversies surrounding the policy to opposition politicians bent on causing confusion in the state.
The governor who spoke on a programme tagged "Governor Explains" decried the development and described the rumour of the sale of public places in Ilorin as a figment of the opposition's imagination.
Governor Ahmed who said the law was passed in 2009, maintained that it was meant to add value to land in the outskirts of the state capital.
He expressed concern over the rumour that the government had sold the Ilorin Eid praying ground, wondering why any sane mind would come up with such a ridiculous falsehood.
"No government can try to sell any praying ground not even in the United Kingdom, not to talk of Ilorin that is predominant Muslims.
"Government has never contemplated to temper with neither praying ground nor Emir's palace, because the land that we have, we have exhausted it.
"All the rumour was just to paint government black, we did not have anything to do with already developed land.
"So, all those things are largely perpetrated by opposition because it is part of their game plan to distract us and we are not going to be distracted.
"How will someone just sit down somewhere and cook that story, that the government intend to sell praying ground or Emir's palace, it does not make sense. It just handiwork of mischief makers".
Governor Ahmed who spoke about other sundry issues talked on his government's giant stride on education, disclosing that over 200 classrooms were constructed in primary and secondary schools across the state.
