Date: 2019-10-04

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, flagged off the distribution of over 25,000 bags of Fertilizers to about 3,450 Farmers in Kwara whose farms were destroyed by flood in 2018.

The NEMA Supervisor incharge of Emergency Agriculture Intervention, Mallam Suleiman Muhammed made this known while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin.

He explained that the agency had earlier carried out the data capturing of all the affected farmers in the worst hit Local Government of Edu, Pategi and Moro all in Kwara State.

Mallam Muhammed said seedlings, insecticides and other farm inputs have been distributed to the victims in April this year.

According to him, farmers with one hectares of farm land takes nine bags of fifty kilograms fertilizer for those planting maize and rice while six bags of fertilizer goes for farmers planting Guineacorn and Cassava.

Mallam Mohammed said NEMA would soon extend similar gesture to flood victims who were also genuine farmers in other local government areas of the state.

The Kwara State Head of Service, Mrs Susan Oluwole while flagging off the fertilizer distribution expressed the state government's gratitude to the Federal government.

She advised the beneficiaries to use the fertilizer and other farm inputs received for the intended purpose so that food security would be guaranteed.

The beneficiaries from Moro, Edu and Pategi Local Government Areas applauded the Federal Government through NEMA for coming to their aid.
