Date: 2019-04-01

A middle aged woman, Aishat Yinusa and six others who were allegedly trading in human parts have been arraigned before an Ilorin High Court in Kwara State..

Other suspects arraigned alongside Aishat are Azeez Yakubu, Lukman Saka, AbdulGaniyu Bamidele, Ahmed Yahaya, Saliu Ayinde and Abdurasak Babamale..

Brought to court along with the suspects are 11 human skulls, 11 lower jaw bones, bunch of hair and 29 pieces of bones allegedly recovered from them..

The first witness, Sergeant Muhammed Kamaldeen who was led in evidence by the prosecutor, Barr. Abdulmumini Jimoh, informed the court that the human parts were brought to the CIID, from Adewole Police Division, Ilorin..

He added that the exhibits were sent to the University Teaching Hospital (UITH) for medical examination.According to him, the items were received at the hospital and after thorough examination, they were confirmed by Dr Kazeem Ibrahim to be human parts..

Counsel to the first accused, Popoola Taiwo objected the admissibility of the items on the ground that they were not certified by qualifiedmedical personnel..

The trial judge, Justice Durosinlohun Kawu, however, over ruled the objection raised by Taiwo while the items were admitted and marked as exhibits.

Matthew Omotosho who also testified before the court that he was part of team that arrested the first accused said, "When we got there, Yakubu was not at home, so, his house was surrounded by police, due to intelligent gathering, we learnt he was at Anifowose, we moved there and he was arrested. We brought him to his house in Oke-Are..

"He confessed to the heinous crime, and took us to where those skulls and other human parts were kept. They were all brought out.".

Another witness, Fatai Adedoyin, a member of a vigilance group told the court that he knows the first accused very well, saying he was part of those who retrieved the human parts on the roof of the accused persons..

After taking evidence from three out of five witnesses in the case, Justice Durosinlohun adjourned the matter to 8th May, 2019 for continuation of hearing.
