Kwara Goes Tough on Illegal Schools
The Kwara State Government has vowed to close down illegal schools, as part of on-going reform agenda to re-position the education sector in the state.
Alhaji Saka Onimago, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, told newsmen in Ilorin yesterday that the proliferation of schools in the state was becoming worrisome.
He said the ministry had directed the existing private schools proprietors to revalidate their registration and approval in order to meet government standards.
The commissioner said, "People are now running illegal nursery, primary, junior and senior secondary schools without government's approval.
"To stem this ugly trend, we have directed all existing registered private institutions of learning to revalidate their registration and approval with the Quality and Assurance Bureau of the Ministry of Education."
Onimago warned that any school that failed to comply would be closed down.
He advised parents to request for approval of establishment of any school before enrolling their children.
