Kwara Community Gets Electricity after Months of Outage
Okeiya-Ipo community in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State got a respite on Monday after months of power outage.
It was learnt that the development was due to a financial assistance from the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Demola Banu, for the rehabilitation of the community's vandalised transformer.
The community had not had electricity for many months because of its vandalised its transformer.
The outage was said to have increased hardship and insecurity in the community.
The Oludupo of Okoya-Ipo, Oba Saheed Opadoye, said the community had severally approached the Power Holding Company of Nigeria for the repair of the transformers.
He said, "The PHCN officials told the community's delegations that it will take up to two years before the transformer could be repaired.
"PHCN's officials informed the delegation that if the community could contribute N150,000 as cost of the repairs, the transformers would be repaired in less than two weeks."
The community was unable to raise money and they resigned to fate.
Banu, who was said to have visited the area learnt of their predicament and gave the N150, 000 for the repair of the transformer.
Banu said alleviating hardship of the people was government's major concern. He said over 500 communities in the state had been given transformers and linked to the national grid by the state governments.
He said, "I had to assist with the repair because this is a problem that needed to be resolved urgently since they only needed N150, 000.
"I decided to support the community because of the importance of the electricity to the people."
