Trado-medical practitioner nabbed for allegedly killing wife in Ilorin

A trado-medical practitioner, Raji Muftau has been arrested by men of the Kwara State Police Command for allegedly killing his wife, National Pilot has learnt. The suspect who resides at Asa Dam Road was arrested around 8pm on Tuesday, along Osere area, Ilorin, with his wife’s corpse in the car.

It was gathered that while the suspect, before being apprehended regularly went drove around town hawking his local herbs with the corpse his wife in the car, 'a ritual' a source said is to boost sales of his product.

Our reporter learnt that following a tip off from residents of Osere area, the suspect was nabbed on Tuesday by officers of the Surulere 'B' Divisional Police Station.

A check at the said police station revealed that the suspect had been transferred to the Police Headquarters, Ilorin for discreet information. According to a police source, who is not authorised to speak on the issue, the suspect claimed his wife hails from Cotonou, Republic of Benin but he has continued to deny killing his wife.

Meanwhile, when contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the arrest of the suspect.

Okasanmi added that, Raji was arrested selling local herbs with a female corpse in the trunk of his car.

"He was arrested at Osere in the evening and when arrested, he claimed that the corpse is his wife. The corpse didn’t look like a fresh one because it had swollen."

He said the case is still under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department.

In a related development, 32-year-old, Sulaiman Ajenifuja, who claimed to be a staff of Lagos State Waste Management Agency (LAWMA) has been arrested with three human skulls and paraded yesterday, at the Police Headquarters, Ilorin. Ajenifuja was apprehended along Ogbomoso-Eyenkorin Express Way while coming from Lagos with the exhibits.

The state Police Commissioner, Ado Lawan, during the press briefing said the suspect was arrested on Monday by the Detachment of Federal Highway Patrol team led by Insp. Erumebekakhu Benson. The CP said Ajenifuja was intercepted in a commercial vehicle conveying seven passengers from Lagos.

He said the skulls wrapped in a sack were recovered from a black bag belonging to the suspect.

"He admitted being the owner of the skulls which he claimed he intended using for ritual purposes in Ilorin. Investigation is still in progress and he will be charged to court after we conclude investigation."

Speaking with the suspect, he claimed he discovered the skulls where he was dumping refuse and his friend who he identified as Rasheed gave him the mobile number of an Ilorin-based cleric who could help him use the skulls for ritual purposes.

"I called the cleric and he asked me to come down to Ilorin with a promise to pick me up at General Hospital. I don't know him or his house but he promised to use the skulls for rituals for me.

"It was while coming down to Ilorin that I was arrested by the officers," he lamented. Another suspect paraded is Wahab Ramoni, for alleged car theft.

The CP said acting on intelligence, the FSARS operatives intercepted the suspect along Unity Road, driving a Toyota Camry car with the number plate; AKD 287 EE and he confessed that he bought the car from one Omolayo Raphael from Ogbondoroko area. Also joined in the crime is one Ganiyu who is currently an inmate at Federal Prison, Ilorin. He added that the car will be released to the owner after investigation.

Speaking with the suspect, he claimed to have bought the car at the rate of N550,000 from a friend. The 2013 graduate of Business Administration, Kwara State Polytechnic, said he was not aware the car was stolen.

Meanwhile, the command during its mop up exercise of unauthorised fire arms in line with the 21-day ultimatum directive by the Inspector General of Police, has recovered 50 guns.

Speaking on the development Ado said, 32 single barrels, four locally made cut-to-size and seven locally made single barrel were recovered. Others are; one locally made double barrel pistol, three cut-to-size double barrel, Ak-47 rifle and one double barrel, one English pistol and two cartridges.

The CP however disclosed that the recovery of arms directive is still in progress adding that any individual that failed to surrender his fire arm after the expiration of deadline will be prosecuted.

The police boss also cautioned against illegal use of siren, use of spy numbers by banks and other organisations.
