Non Implementation of Laws: Kwara Assembly urges Gov Ahmed to Set Machinery in Motion

Date: 2018-03-15

The Kwara State House of Assembly has urged the State Governor, Alhaji AbdulFatah Ahmed, to as a matter of urgency set machinery in motion to ensure implementation of all laws passed by the House to further enhance the wellbeing of the people of the state.

Some of the laws passed by the House include Law Reform, Local Content Development, Security Trust Fund, Inland Revenue Board, IVTEC, State Health Insurance Agency, People With Disability Law.

This was sequel to the Motion moved by member representing Oke Ogun Constituency, Barrister Kamal Fagbemi on the non implementation of some laws passed by the legislature.

The Deputy Speaker, Chief Matthew Okedare, who presided over the sitting, explained that the implementation of the affected laws became imperative in view of the urgent need to make the people of the state and the state government enjoy the platform for good governance being provided by the legislative arm of government in the state.

Other members who spoke on the motion explained that the implementation of the affected laws was long over due and expressed confidence that their implementation would among other things, create jobs, enhance the wellbeing of local entrepreneurs, increase Internally Generated Revenue for government, public safety and ensure corporate organisation's active participation in securing lives and property in the state.

The legislature equally at its sitting on Wednesday called on the State Ministry of Works and Transport to ensure that all commercial vehicle and motorcycle owners boldly write their identification numbers on their vehicles and uniforms to further curb social menace permeating the society.

The Legislature made the call following a Matter of General Public Importance raised by member representing Essa/Shao/Igboidun Constituency, Hon Dr Hassan Oyeleke, on the need for proper identification of commercial vehicle and motorcycle owners, as a way of curbing the incessant social menace in the state.

The House also enjoined the State Ministry of Information and Communication to intensify its sensitization on the dangers inherent in patronising unmarked vehicles and motorcycles in the state.

Meanwhile, the House has read for the first time a bill for a law to establish the State Farm Produce Commodity Board just as the Deputy Speaker, who presided over the sitting, directed the House Committee on Rules and Business to schedule the bill for further legislative actions.
