21-year-old bus conductor, Banji Olaniyi, is to spend the next 30 days at the Federal Prisons, Oke-Kura in Ilorin for stealing a mobile phone handset.

An Ilorin magistrate court sentenced him to the jail term, having found him guilty of stealing a Nokia 1200 and a cash of N600 belonging to one Simon Adenle Ogunwole.

Prior to the conviction, the prosecutor, Mojisola Olamokun, prayed the court to try the accussed summarily, since he admitted committing the two offences.

The trial magistrate, Mariam Qudus-Salau granted the oral application of the prosecutor and convicted the accused of the offences of the theft.

Consequently, the court sentenced him to a month imprisonment with option of N1000 as fine. The convict is to spend the jail term at Oke-Kura.

The 21-year-old convict had on August 5 committed the offence along Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Ilorin.

Police were said to have rescued the convict from the mob that was about to lynch him for stealing the items belonging to the victim, a resident of Sobi area, Ilorin, Kwara State.

Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that investigation conducted at the state CID Ilorin revealed that the convict committed the offence which contravenes Section 287 of the penal code of law.
