Kidnapping: Madman Caught with 3 Kids Lynched
...Okada man too
Hell was let loose at Post Office area of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital when angry mob descended on a man and lynched him for allegedly kidnapping three kids.
The alleged kidnapper was said to have disguised as a madman and put the three kids in a 'Ghana-Must-Go' bag in an attempt to escape with them.
He was reportedly pursued from Opomalu Junction, through the popular Railway Station and to the Post Office overhead bridge where he was stripped naked and allegedly killed by the mob.
The incident, which happened penultimate Wednesday, disrupted vehicular and pedestrian movements in the ever-busy area; ditto business activities while the pandemonium lasted.
The lynched man with facial tribal marks was reportedly arrested early this year by men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Asa Division, but was later released at the State Command Headquarters, Ilorin when no concrete evidence could be established against him.
The Command Public Relations Officer (PRO),Superintendent of Corps Ibrahim Olarewaju Qudar, disclosed this to National Pilot, when contacted last Friday.
Asked on the whereabouts of the three kids, he said the police had taken over the case and that the matter was initially handled by the command's Surveillance Unit.
But when contacted the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr Fabode Olufemi, said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.
In a related development, an unidentified motorcyclist was last Thursday, lynched by a mob at Alore area of Ilorin, when he allegedly snatched a bag belonging to an aged woman.
The middle-aged man, according to eyewitness accounts, snatched the handbag of the woman whom he trailed from a bank located around the Central Market (Oja-Oba).
In an attempt by the man to snatch the bag, the woman was said to have fallen, thereby sustaining bruises on a part of her face.
Angered by the motorcyclist's action, bystanders gave the motorcyclist a hot chase. When they caught up with him, they reportedly pelted him with stones and sticks until he gave up the ghost.
Speaking to National Pilot, an eyewitness who craved anonymity, said when the handbag was searched, the sum of N70 was all that found.
