June salary: 40% of teachers yet to be paid

Date: 2012-07-25

Chairman, Nigerian Union of  Teachers, Kwara State chapter, Mr. Farouk Akanbi, says about 40 per cent of   teachers in Kwara State under the State Universal Basic Education Board  are yet to receive their June salary.

In an interview with our correspondent in Ilorin on Tuesday, Akanbi said delay in the payment could be attributed to  the adoption of payment using the biometrics data capture system.

The NUT chief, who also is the state Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress said, "A number of us had problems, including myself and NASU Chairman for SUBEB. We had issue relating to PS numbers, where we did our capturing and so on. That is being worked out for the second batch.

"We met with the Commissioners of Education and Local Government.  We agreed that the biometric consultant should go ahead and let those who are cleared for the second batch receive money  into their account.

But in a telephone interview with our correspondent the Permanent Secretary, SUBEB, Dr. Musa Dasuki, said only about 2,000 teachers had not been paid their June salary.
