Date: 2016-08-19

The Management of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has concluded plans to partner with Kwara Football Academy (KFA) to run certificate courses in sports. The Rector of the polytechnic, Alhaji Mas'ud Elelu explained that this will afford the youths of the state who are interested in sports the opportunity to gain admission to higher institution. He added that apart from boosting the Polytechnic's internally generated revenue (IGR), it will also assist the academy footballers with sound academic background.

Meanwhile, the Purchasing and Supply Department has won the 2016 Rector's cup of the institution. The match played in front of the Institute of Technology (IOT) complex, main campus, did not witness a clear winner at the end of 90 minutes. This led to the penalty shoot-out which ended 3-1 in favour of the Purchasing and Supply Department.

While presenting the cup to the winners and silver medals to the second team, the Rector who was represented by the Deputy Rector, (Administration) Engr Ahmed Ayodele Aminu was full of appreciation to God Almighty for making it possible for the smooth conclusion of the annual football competition, which did not witness any major injury to any players.

While congratulating the winners, he enjoined the team that came second to take it as one of the life experience of a sports man. According to him, in any competition, there is always a winner and a loser. Engr. Aminu also advised the winners to rejoice magnanimously and prepare hard for the forth-coming Nigerian Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA), coming up later in the year.

They promised to keep winning laurels for the Polytechnic in their future sporting activities. The Rector's cup is an annual event marking the epic of the Students' Union Government (SUG) week.
