Kwara Speaker donates rice to unpaid workers, as workers beg for food

As part of efforts to cushioning the effect of non-payment of salaries on the affected workers in kwara state, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Right Ali Ahmad has has donated 100 bags of rice to teachers and local government staffs in the state.

Ahmad who described the gesture as not been political stressed that it was his personal contribution to alleviate the workers' sufferings especially in the month of Ramadan.

The Speaker handed over the items to the executives of both Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Nigeria Union of local Government Employees (NULGE) in Ilorin.

He however assured them that the House has been working round the clock with the Executive to ensure that non-payment of salaries in the local government is resolved as soon as possible.

Earlier, the chairman of kwara state chapter of Nigeria Union of Teachers Alhaji Musa Abubakar had lauded the Speaker for the donation, describing the gesture as first of its kind any individual have done to alleviate their sufferings.

ROYALTIMES correspondent olarotimi oshin reports that the gesture came at the time some SUBEB and local government workers now beg for food in the state.
