Igbomina organizes prayer for political office holders
March 11,2016 will remain evergreen in the minds of lgbomina people both at home and abroad. It was a day set aside to organize a special prayer session for all their sons and daughters currently occupying political positions at the local,state and Federal Government levels across the country.
The special inter-denominational prayer programme was held at the "Ile Egbe Omo Ibile Igbomina" Secretariat, Ilorin.
Some of the illustrious sons and daughters of lgbomina land presently occupying political positions included the Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, the Minister for Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, member of House of Representatives, princess Funke Adedoyin, the Kwara State Commissioner of Finance, Alhaji Demola Nurudeen Banu, his counterparts from the Ministry of Works, Budgeting and Economic Planning , Alhaji Aro Yahaya and Wasiu Odewale respectively.
Other appointees are the permanent secretaries among who are Mrs Rhoda Ajiboye and Alhaji Ayinla.
Local government chairmen of Irepodun and Ifelodun LGAs, Alhaji Lukman Owolewa and Alhaji Babatunde Salami, members of House of Assemblies, among others. While reading his address, the National President of Egbe Omo Ibile Igbomina, Engineer Timothy Adebayo, said the task of taking the area to greater height rested majorly on the shoulders of leaders from the area.
He charged the political officeholders from the area to continue to contribute their quotas to socio- economic development of the land. Engineer Adebayo commended the government at all levels for giving their children opportunity to serve in various capacities across the country.
"It is in realization of this that we have organised this prayer to thank God for His mercy and favour on our sons and daughters in government and to also put them in the hand of the Almighty God for direction, wisdom and protection", he said. The national president of the association, who called on the political office holders to be good ambassadors of the people, prayed that God would see them through in their various assignments.
He also said that it was expedient to sustain close and regular rapport with elders, political office holders, traditional leaders, adding that the unity of Igbomina was crucial to him and should be pursued vigorously.
"It is our belief that there can be no growth, progress and development without unity. This quest for unity will cover every facet as we are poised to take the unity message to every towns and villages of Igbomina land, including groups, organizations and branches of the association", he said.
The association also called for creation of another local government out of the existing Ifelodun local government which was described as the largest local government area in the country, for greater development.
The people urged the political office holders from the area to make it a reality. In their prayers/admonition during the programme, the chief Imam of Olarewaju Mosque, Alhaji Abdulkadir Salaudeen and Reverend Stephen Ajise of First ECWA Church, said the prayers of the people had been answered by their political elevation, adding that the Igbomina people believed they were the ones to boost the glory of the land.
In his address at the occasion, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, represented by the Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development, Alhaji Wasiu Odewale, reiterated the resolve of the state government to fulfill all its campaign promises, while he solicited for their support in the task of taking the state to greater height.
Some of the traditional rulers at the event include Olupo of Ajase Ipo, Oba Sikiru Atanda Woleola, Oloro of Oro Kingdom, Oba Rafiu Ajiboye, Elesie of Esie Kingdom, Oba Yakub Babalola, Oloro of Oro Ago, Oba Johnson Dada, Elese of Igbaja, among other dignitaries from the area.
