KWSG effects minor changes in Ministries ... To establish Gifted and Talented

Kwara State Government has effected a minor change of nomenclature in the state Ministries of Women Affairs and the Social Development, Culture and Tourism just as it approved the establishment of Gifted and Talented Schools across the three senatorial districts of the state.

These were part of the decisions taken at the end of the state executive council meeting held at the Government House during the week in Ilorin, the state capital.

The state commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajia Asiat Saka who made the disclosure yesterday while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state executive council meeting, said the state Ministry of Women Affairs would now be referred to as the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development while the Ministry of Social Development, Culture and Tourism would be called Ministry of Art, Culture and Tourism.

She further explained that the council collectively took the decision in line with the present administration's policy thrust to take care of vulnerable groups, for effective and efficient coordination and management.

She added that her ministry would now be saddled with the responsibility of combining the issues of women, children and the vulnerable groups for proper attention.

Also speaking, the state commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Engr Musa Ayinla Yeketi said the council unanimously approved the establishment of gifted and talented schools across the three senatorial districts.

The intention, according to the commissioner was to provide sound and qualitative education to the populace.

He further said the council in line with the government’s policy thrust on skill acquisition resolved to upgrade five technical colleges in the state to enable them produce students with the Federal Labour Certificate grade two and three.

In his contribution, the state commissioner for Information and Communications, Babatunde Ajeigbe disclosed that the council approved the establishment of the Directorate of Public Health at the state ministry of health.

Ajeigbe who said its establishment was desirable and necessary for the coordination of the public health issues in order to enhance healthcare delivery across the state in line with current realities and exigencies.
