Re-PP project between GSS Old Boys Association and KWSG
With reference to Special Assistant on Media Dr. Muyideen Akorede's release on twitter on 13 february 2016, where he said the ongoing shop construction project at Government Secondary School Ilorin along Fate Road, is a public private partnership initiative between Old Boys of GSS and Kwara State Government, and will not add a dime to the purse of the state but for the development of the school. It is necessary to make to the following clarifications: The content in the release is incorrect for the following reasons :
The GSS Ilorin Old boys Association never entered into any PPP agreement with Kwara State Government to develop Shops along GSS Fence Land. During the courtesy visit to His Excellency Alh. (Dr.)Abdul Fatah Ahmed by the representative of GSS Exco together with some respected older members of GSS Old Boys Association which include Mr. Peter Olorunnisola SAN, Alh. M.S Koro, Chief J. Ogunlowo, Alh Mudi Gold. His Excellency intimated the Old Boys about government intention to build shops by private developers along the Fate end of the GSS perimeter walls.
He said the aim is not in any way for revenue generation nor for other commercial advantage, but to beef up security in the part of Ilorin which is becoming a haven for miscreant.
The Old Boys are worried about the encroachment into GSS land by about 4meters along the fence line . His Excellency said new fence wall will be built to secure GSS and in addition, all the proceed accruable from ceding the 4meter encroachment into GSS land would be given to the school for development in the form of laboratory refurbishment and equipment as well as hostel improvement. The Old boys thanked him for this and requested to be fully intimated of the amount of proceed, how and what the proceed is going to be channeled.
While the Old Boys are appreciative of the gesture of the governor but this does not in any way amount to a PPP arrangement, it is therefore necessary for the old boys Association to correct the statement made by Dr. Akorode for record purpose.
Furthermore the association is still making further appeal to the state government to support the 100years premier school in Kwara State to restore it to the level it was as the number one school in Kwara State.
The GSS Old Boys will continue to partner with the state government to live up to the slogan of the school "GSS is great, I will make it greater, we shall make it greatest".
