3 arraigned for murder over argument on subsidy removal

Kwara State Police Command said it has arraigned three persons before an Ilorin Magistrate Court for allegedly stabbing a 31-year-oldman to death while taking part in a group argument over the subsidy removal. The accused are Friday Adebisi, 25, Joseph Adebisi, 22 and Sheu Usman, 25, all of Aiyetoro area in Ilorin.

The police said the suspects were brought before the court on a 3-count charge of criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt and culpable homicide. According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), the accused engaged in an argument with the deceased over the removal of fuel subsidy while they were all drunk.

The FIR indicated that the accused conspired and stabbed the deceased and one Samuel Oladimeji on the back "without just cause." The prosecutor, Inspector Godwin Asua, informed the court that investigation into the case was ongoing and objected against bail for the accused.

The defence counsel, Barrister Abdulsalad Lawal, prayed the court to grand bail to the accused pending the re-trial. The judge, Mrs. M. L. Akorede, declined the appeal and ordered the accused to be remanded in prison. The court adjourned the case till February 9, 2012 for further mention
