Tree-felling at Flower Garden to Ensure Adequate Security - KWSG
THE Kwara State government says the ongoing felling of trees at Flower Garden, GRA, Ilorin, is part of efforts to beautify and provide additional security in the area which has become a den of criminals.
According to a statement by the State Commissioner for Environment, Otunba Taiwo Joseph, the state government has observed that criminal elements have turned Flower Garden and it's environs into a base to launch attacks on unsuspecting passersby, motorists and residents, especially at night. Otunba Taiwo therefore explained that the decision to beautify and transform the place was taken in the interest of public safety and urban beautification.
He stated that the ongoing felling of trees was a prelude to the beautification exercise, noting that this would be followed by installation of a perimeter fence and replanting of flowers and trees.
Otunba Taiwo said that the state government intends to return Flower garden to its previous position as a relaxation centre .
he Commissioner also warned miscreants using the Garden to carry out unlawful activities to desist, as law enforcement agencies have been directed to apprehend and prosecute anyone apprehended.
