Wellbeing Foundation Africa Restates Advocacy for PLWHA - Celebrates frontline Impact in Kwara State
The Chief Program Officer of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Mr Tajudeen Arowolo has pronounced Kwara as the only state in the north-central geopolitical zone of Nigeria, with the lowest number of HIV/AIDS cases, and one of the lowest in the country.
At a four-day medical outreach organized by NACA at Oja Tuntun Boboko in Ilorin, a total number of 4,441 people were tested for HIV/AIDS. Of this number only 19 people tested positive to the virus, In comparison with the high number of cases recorded in other states within the north - central zone.
The low rate/reduction in the number of cases of HIV/AIDS can be attributed to the consistent and committed efforts of the Wellbeing foundation Africa (WBFA) in Kwara State especially through the implementation of innovative solutions/interventions, such as the Positive Lifeline Fund (PLF), which has now morphed into a part of the Alafia Universal Health Coverage Fund (AUHCF). The PLF was on for more than 12 years, and provided counseling, home-visits and direct healthcare for persons living with HIV/AIDS in Kwara State, as well as adjoining parts in the north-central zone.
AUHCF has now played a key role in discovering incidences of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), while helping them access adequate counselling and the much need medical attention that they need. The Wellbeing Foundation Africa, led by the Founder-President, Her Excellency Mrs. Toyin Saraki, remains committed to empowering healthcare workers, mothers and their newborns, through demand creation for birth-preparedness and voluntary counseling and testing, thereby reducing the scourge of preventable maternal, newborn and child mortality.
Mrs. Saraki, the Newborn Champion for Save the Children Nigeria, also serves as Global Goodwill Ambassador to the International Confederation of Midwives. She is also the Wife of the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
