Kwara to parley The Netherlands company on housing project

Date: 2012-06-06

Kwara State government is to partner with Stylotec Concrete Industries, Netherlands, for the construction of 10,000 affordable housing units within a four-year period.

The State governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, said the provision of decent shelter which had long been a major national challenge may soon become a thing of the past in Kwara State.

Governor Ahmed, who  made this known at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the company in Ilorin, stated that the housing scheme, with a capital outlay of $450million in housing delivery and $15million in infrastructure development, had the capacity to deliver 15 housing units per day.

The governor explained that the projection was achievable due to the new technology to be employed for the scheme.

Governor Ahmed also said that the housing scheme would enhance the actualisation of his administration's Shared Prosperity Programme  (SPP) as clinics would now be built in good time for people to have access,  500 metres, to good healthcare centres in the  state.

"The beauty of the scheme," according to the governor, "is that the core investors have a window that will ensure that Kwara people have access to mortgage loans to buy the houses."

The president of Stylotec Concrete Industries, Mr George Lamar, said the projection of 10,000 housing units in four years was achievable because of the modern technology that would be employed.

Mr Lamar noted that the environment in Kwara was conducive for the housing initiative because the state government had business, friendly policies.
