Court Remands Man in Prison for Culpable Homicide

Date: 2015-07-11

AN Ilorin Magistrate Court on Friday July 10, 2015 remanded one Umaru Kimando, 35, in prison having been charged with killing one Usman Dikko.

The Prosecuting Police, Corporal Olawale Abideen, told the court that Kimando, a farmer, cut off the right hand of the deceased with cutlass on July 1 at Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Abideen said the accused attacked the victim because of the rift between them. The prosecutor said the accused was charged with one count of culpable homicide contrary to Section 221 of Penal Code.

He, therefore, objected to the bail of the accused on the ground that the offence does not ordinarily attract bail. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The magistrate, M. Adebola, ordered the accused person to be remanded in Madala Prison, and adjourned the case to July 14, for mention.
