Kwara, Lagos APC clash over Tinubu, Saraki
The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has berated its Lagos State counterpart for demanding that Senate President Bukola Saraki be sanctioned for anti-party activities.
The Publicity Secretary of Lagos APC, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, had, on Tuesday, said that both Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, should be sanctioned for treachery.
While the Lagos APC is loyal to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the Kwara APC is loyal to Saraki.
Accordingly, the Kwara APC Publicity Secretary, Sulyman Buhari, on Wednesday, described Lagos APC's comment as uninformed, insisting that Saraki and Dogara did not breach the party's constitution.
The statement read, "It is quite unfortunate that the Lagos APC recommended disciplinary actions against the Senate President and the Speaker without citing a provision of the APC constitution that has been contravened by these distinguished Nigerians and committed party leaders.
"We advise the spokesman for Lagos APC to allow his comments to be guided by the law and constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria rather than by emotions and sentiments."
The Kwara APC said it had information that the spokesperson for the Lagos APC issued the statement based on personal sentiments as this was not the official position of the APC in Lagos.
The Kwara APC said the party must support Saraki and Dogara so that President Muhammadu Buhari would be able to deliver his promise of change.
The statement added, "And for the information of Nigerians, the spokesman for Lagos APC is on his own as we can authoritatively confirm that his sentiments and vituperation are not reflective of the position of the Lagos APC on the inauguration of the 8th National Assembly.
"The good news is that in Nigeria today, the Senate President and the Speaker of House of Representatives are members of our great party, the APC.
"It is expected that all leaders and members of our party support both Saraki and Dogara to foster a cordial relationship between the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration and the National Assembly, rather than an inordinate attempt to cause crises and instability."
