Community worried over declining education standard

Date: 2015-06-11

The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) has given a damning verdict on the Kwara State education sector, saying the standard has deteriorated to a dangerous level.

The union, which is the apex socio-cultural organisation of Ilorin Emirate indigenes at home and abroad, is deeply concerned by poor students' performance, decrepit infrastructure, absence of teachers in core subjects, among other challenges.

IEDPU president, Alhaji AbdulHamid Adi, who made this known while presenting N1million cheque to five community secondary schools in Ilorin Emirate, tasked the government to focus more on primary and secondary education which would provide foundation for the students.

The benefiting schools are Ilorin Grammar School, Baboko Community Secondary School, Banni Community Secondary School, Barakat Community Secondary School and United Community School. They were given N200,000 each.

The IEDPU president said the union's visit to the affected schools painted a gloomy picture of infrastructural decay.
