CHARGES SECURITY AGENCIES ON SLAIN CORPS MEMBER
Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Olawunmi Johnson yesterday charged security agencies in Kwara State to get killers of a corps member whose body was recently found at the Ilorin GRA.
Late Miss Yetunde Shukurah Idowu who was a member of the 2014 Batch B set, reportedly went to Shoprite Ilorin mall on Saturday May 23 but she never returned. Her body was found the following day. The state police command said Yetunde, a native of Aiyetoro in Ogun State, was found with a broken skull and bruises but could not confirm the motive for the killing. The NYSC Director General sent a delegation to Kwara State to meet with security agencies and the traditional institution.
The delegation led by the Director, Corps Welfare and Inspectorate Division at the NYSC headquarters, Mr. Michael Ahile, met with the Director of State Security Services (SSS), the police and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Zulu Gambari.
Addressing newsmen after the tour, Ahile who spoke on behalf of the Director General, said security agencies and the host community had the responsibility to protect corps members.
He said: "The NYSC management received the news of the death of Miss Yetunde Idowu with a heavy heart, particularly the circumstances surrounding her death. So the Director-General of the NYSC delegated us to come down to Kwara State to discuss with the security agencies and the traditional institution here to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of this corps member.
"We want to condemn in very strong terms the death of this corps member and we call on security agencies to unravel the circumstances surrounding it and the people behind it."
Receiving the delegation at the emir's palace, the Mogaji Are of Ilorin, Alhaji Aremu Zubari who represented the emir, Alhaji Ibrahim Zulu-Gambari, sympathized with the NYSC, describing the incident as unfortunate.
